Warning: I copied this post from my dakkadakka forum blog, and amalgamated several posts into one blog post. Each post is in ascending chronological order going down the page.

Not a painting update, but I thought you lot might like this picture from a battle this weekend.

I call it: "Are you sure we need to hold this objective, brother?"

Alternative title: "And they shall know no fear.. 99% of the time."

I really like painting big models! Daemon princes and greater daemons are a lot of fun, and they look so impressive on the battlefield (see pictures above!)

This is Baltanath, Bloodthirster of the Sixth Host.

Here's the full army so far:

I have painted one of the Chosen marines, and I am looking for feedback on this colour scheme. I am thinking of painting the CSM detachment with slightly more steel than bone to represent the machine cult element, and as a way of distinguishing them from the KDK detachment. They are also going to have red base rims.

How does this look?

The Chosen of the Bloodstorm have arrived!
Led by Aspiring Champion Zvolený, the squad is formed from the mightiest champions of the Bloodstorm and is armed with 4 power weapons, a pair of lightning claws and a flamer.
The squad have received many gifts of Khorne, mutating their armour and bodies into baroque shapes. The squad hit hard and fast, dropping into battle in a Dreadclaw drop pod and charging into elite enemy units.
One of them carries an icon of Khorne that most would struggle to lift, and this serves as a summoning point for daemons of the Blood God.
Forever have they shed blood in the name of Khorne, and long may they continue to do so...

So... I met up with taemu_touhi at Warhammer World to see how the Bloodstorm would fare against the imperial scum known as the Adeptus Mechanicus.
Much blood was spilled in the name of Khorne, but in the end, the planet and its precious deposits of adamantium were claimed by the Adeptus Mechanicus. The Bloodstorm will be back to have their revenge...

Some of the highlights:

1. Warpsmith Prostrednik leads his daemon engines to war.
2. Skitaari rangers set up in a position to get a commanding view of the battlefield.
3. A mighty Imperial Knight of the strides at the head of the Adeptus Mechanicus force.
4. An ectoplasma cannon deals death from a distance.
5. The decimator Katastrofa is no match for a Knight.
6. But a Bloodthirster drops out of the sky and slices the Knight in half with its Great Axe of Khorne.
7. And goes on to wreak havoc in the imperial lines.
8. At the end of the battle, nought but a vindicator and this blessed rapier would be left of the Bloodstorm.
9. A last ditch attempt by the Bloodstorm to capture a chaos shrine would end in failure.
10. The Skitarii will not allow this treachery to come to pass.
11. One lone, mad berzerker attempts to cut his way through the mechanicus ranks, but ultimately falls to the superior weaponry of the techpriest.

It's certainly been a while since I posted some miniatures! I haven't really had the inspiration to paint, but then I've also been out in the sun, trying to enjoy it while it lasts.
So here's a gentle reintroduction to painting finishing off some flesh hounds.
They're not the best paintjobs I've ever done, but I think they look decent enough.

I have finally painted up the possessed I hinted at in my last post!
Freaky and khornate enough? I tried to make good use of the muscly bodies of the skulltakers kit.

I haven't painted in a while, and my standard has slipped a bit. I think I'll do some more painting practice before tackling any centrepiece models...

EDIT: I haven't varnished them yet. They'll look better when I do...

The flamer guy should be more upright, but I didn't glue him to the base properly, and I swapped the head on the chainsword-wielder as he lacked that mechanicus vibe.

Time for some chosen!

I had to make use of these AoS models, and they give some interesting options for weapons. The hand swaps were good fun, and the backpacks were fairly easy to fit.
I was worried that the 40k models would look too small, but they seem to be fine, though that is probably due in no small part to the Khorne helms that I have added / converted.
The model with the massive sword is the champion.

So my havocs are looking pretty nifty, being led by Aspiring Champion Zanik. 2 plasmas and a flamer, which is strapped to the marine's body using gold chains, as suggested by KernelTerror.
I have more cool models to show you in the coming weeks. I've made a few bits but they won't be posted 'til they're painted, just coz they're too cool to reveal now .

Woah... I painted this in two days. That's fast for me! I guess it was just a lot of fun.

May I present: Kraadax, Bloodthirster of the Eighth Host.

A Vindicator!

I bought a box of 2nd hand miniatures on ebay, and one of the models was this badly put-together and thickly painted Vindicator. I couldn't do anything about the modelling (the side panels were put on really strangely and there is a gap at the rear), but I stripped the paint as best I can. I didn't strip it all, and there was some lumpy paint left on, but I thought I would use that to give the tank a warped and ancient look. After converting it up with spikes and a Khorne Berzerker, I added as much grime as I could - chips, scratches, corrosion, rust and washes. I hope you think it looks archaic and chaotic!

Phew... It felt like they took a while, but they're finally done, and I'm quite pleased with the dark mechanicus cultists, led by Agitator Otrok
These fellas will form a retinue (meat shield!) for Warpmsith Prostřednik as he patrols the battlefield, repairing his mighty daemon engines. Perhaps they can help repair or suggest improvements to these infernal machines.

In the final picture, you can see Prostřednik with his retinue and two of his mighty creations: the Decimator siege engine, Katastrofa, and the insane Helbrute, Mrtvych Lebky.

This is the model for Samus, Daemon Prince of the Ruinstorm.
I, however, am going to run him as a Bloodthirster who lost his wings, called Xanrezhal.

Behold the might of Xanrezhal, The Drinker of Blood and Bloodthirster of the Third Host.

Leviathan Dreadnought

Today's mini is a humble Leviathan Dreadnought. This is one of the Forge World ones, which I bought just before the plastic one came out...
