Chaos Warhost yearly update

As promised, this week brings you my Chaos Warhost update! Even though I tried to focus on my Imperial collection this year, I already had a lot of Chaos models waiting to be built or painted, and so I just had to finish some of them (I still have loads waiting - the Chaos horde will never be finished!)

This is what it looked like last year:

...and this is what it looks like now!

In the last year, I have added:
  • Squad of Khorne Berzerkers (The Bloodstorm)
  • Squad of Khorne Berzerkers (Black Legion)
  • Black Legion Predator
  • Repainted Forgefiend to Black Legion
  • Tzeentchian "The Disilluminator" converted  Land Raider
  • Squad of Black Legion Chosen
  • Black Legion Chaos Lord
  • Ten Black Legion Cultists
  • Herald of Khorne
  • Bloodstorm Renegade Heavy Weapons Squad (3x lascannon)
  • Bloodstorm Warp Talons
  • Black Legion Hell Blade
  • I rebased all the Berzerkers in the Bloodstorm to 32mm bases
  • About 30 more zombies
  • Dark Imperium Plague Marines
  • Bloat drone
  • Nurgle dreadnought
  • and lastly, Angron (Creature Caster King of War). You can just make him out at the back. I haven't shown him on my blog yet because he's not quite finished, but you'll see him soon!

As you can see, I haven't done as much as I have on the Imperial forces, and I have also done a lot of work on my Necrons and started some Orks, thus a few Chaos projects have been sidelined, but will be finished this year (hopefully), such as:

  • Lord of Skulls
  • Bloodthirster
  • Kytan
  • Doombreed (daemon prince)
  • Horus
  • Archmagos
  • Bloodgors
  • more Bloodletters
  • Squad of Khorne Chosen
  • Hellbrute
  • Magnus
  • Heldrake
There are some huge models there, so you can understand why they might be taking a while. Horus was started early last year, but I really want him to look amazing, so I'm taking my time with painting his armour. The bloodthirster was built ages ago too, but I'm not sure how to finish the base, so it's just sitting on my shelf until I figure out what to do! Haha! Oh well... as long as I'm finishing other models, it's fine!

Imperial Warhost yearly update

It's January, and that means it's time for the yearly update on my collections! I really enjoy this process. It takes quite a long time to get everything out and line it up, but it's well worth the effort to see everything I've built lined up, ready for war. I use last year's image as a reference to put most models in the same position, making it easier to compare last year to this year. I'll post the Imperial models this week, and Chaos next week.

This is what my Imperial Warhost looked like last year:

and this is what it looks like this year!

If you look closely, you can see what has been added:
  • Custodes themed Knight Titan
  • Three drop pods
  • Two Divine Exorcists tactical squads
  • Squad of Divine Exorcists sniper scouts
  • Divine Exorcists Librarian
  • Divine Exorcists Dreadnought
  • Divine Exorcists Stormhawk Interceptor
  • Divine Exorcists Techmarine and servitors
  • Dark Angels razorback
  • Dark Angels scout squad
  • Dark Angels devastator squad
  • Dark Angels Deathwing squad
  • Dark Angels Dreadnought became Grey Knights Dreadnought
  • New Dark Angels Dreadnought
  • Dark Angels techmarine
  • Two Ravenwing bike squads
  • Grey Knights strike squad
  • Grey Knights purifier squad
  • Grey Knight Terminator squad
  • Inquisitor Hector Rex and retinue
  • Inquistior Coteaz
  • Three squads of OOP Blood Angels tactical marines
  • One squad of Ultramarines sternguard (space marine heroes)
  • Captain Lysander
  • Salamanders Captain
  • Storm Eagles Captain
  • Imperial Fists Captain
  • Ultramarines Captain
Crikey.... that's a lot! It was a lot of fun to make all these models. Part of the reason I have so many more Imperial models this year is that I am planning an apocalypse game with a friend and there was an imbalance between how much Chaos we could field versus Imperial. I therefore added a variety of units to bulk up the Warhost, such as the Knight, aircraft and Blood Angels tactical squads. Now the Chaos and Imperial Warhosts will be a bit more evenly matched when they face off (assuming we don't field all my Bloodthirsters! Hahaha).

Imperial Knight Titan

Ta-da! A ta-da seemed appropriate for this glorious model! A while after completing my first Knight, I started longing to build another one. I looked around for parts to upgrade this Knight and make it a bit special, before finding some really nice Adeptus Custodes themed parts on Shapeways. I bought the head and pauldrons and added these to a basic Knight kit that I bought from eBay. I put a lot of effort into getting the gold smooth, because normally my metallics do not come out too smooth. I think I managed it pretty well. The pauldrons were sprayed black and then red, to create the fade, and this is the first time I've used a spray in this manner. It came out well, but I had to be super careful of damaging the paint, because I couldn't just touch up the paint with a brush!

Enjoy the images! This Knight will be taking to battlefields across the Galaxy very soon!

Ultramarines Sternguard

Happy new year, dear readers! A few weeks ago, I showed the first five marines of Guilliman's retinue. Now I have completed the second five marines and the squad is complete. While I was finishing the highlights for the second five, I realised I hadn't completed the first five properly, so I added some extra highlights and so on to them. I know these are meant to be tactical marines, but since they're my only Ultramarines and Guilliman's retinue, I'm going to run them as Sternguard. I might get a couple of Honour Guard marines as well, just because they're beautiful models.

Leviathan Dreadnought

Today's mini is a humble Leviathan Dreadnought. This is one of the Forge World ones, which I bought just before the plastic one came out...
