Following an inquisitor around

Today's post shows you a couple of models who form part of Inquisitor Coteaz's warband, which is now nearly finished.

First up is an acolyte, whom I believe is an old Necromunda model. It's been converted a little, removing a severed head from their left hand and adding a laspistol in the right.

Second up is a battle sister. I've never been interested in building a Sisters of Battle army, but I thought it might be interesting to make one to assist Inquisitor Coteaz.

Minotaurs are back!

After a bit of a break, let's back to some more regular posting! I have a new phone, and I've finally figured out how to take good photos with it. These photos should be better than with my old phone, so hopefully the quality being posted will be higher! I'm also excited about some of the models I will be working on in the future, so I hope to be posting somewhat regularly.

To kick off, here are a couple of Minotaurs that I finished very recently.

First up is Chaplain Plades, whose piety and aggression are legendary among even the Minotaurs. He is determined to lead from the front and tear into the foe as fast as possible.

And the model is beautiful: I love the flowing parchments and the way he is holding the crozius aloft to inspire his comrades.

The second is Executioner Pheidon. Pheidon leaps around the battlefield on his jump pack, hunting down key figures in the command structure of the enemy, executing them with his twin plasma pistols.

Bull Games

I'm away from home at the moment, staying with my girlfriend. Thus I'm not painting any of my own miniatures. However, my girlfriend has a 3D printer and is keen to things for me, and today they printed me a pair of bulls that will be statues for my gaming board, to accompany my Minotaurs marines.

The model was found on thingiverse, and we slightly adjusted the pose and added a plinth, before creating a second bull by mirroring the first.

When I get home, I'll tidy them up and paint them to look like bronze statues.

Even when I'm away from my hobby stuff, I'm still hobbying!

Running with honour

These models took a while to come together, since it was difficult to get all the parts I needed. There are a couple of wild conversions here: The Company Champion (Ianessa) is made from the Deathwatch character, Artemis, and the leftmost Honour Guard is made from Kharn the Bloody. I really wanted to to make conversions from some characters in energetic running poses and these were two of the best that would be suitable. The other two models are made from a combination of many kits, including Vanguard Veterans and Blood Angels Death Company.

The fact that each has at least one power sword means I got to paint lots of lovely green glowing swords, and the whole squad looks very cool!

Guarding the Stern

Sternguard! They guard the stern... of the... boat... that is the Imperium!

These folks will be the heavy weapons department of my first company of Minotaurs. I already have one sternguad squad with lighter weaponry, and will be making a third squad, who will carry two lascannons.

I managed to improve my photography a bit here, moving the lightbox around the room to get better natural light, and my goodness, it makes a difference!

Something new I tried was using some different skin tones on the bare-headed model and so she has a very pale complexion. I've always thought that I would expect (white) space marines to have quite pale skin, as a result of the physical changes they go through to become space marines, their age, and the fact that they spend a lot of time inside space ships and inside suits of armour. Maybe this marine has removed her helmet to try and get a bit of vitamin D in her system! I do like painting varied skin tones though - it's a bit boring to paint the same thing all the time, especially when their armour is always the same!

I really like this squad. It's got a lot of character, and the green glowing parts look good. I'm pleased with the poses (something I have struggled with), and the sergeant in particular looks dynamic.

Overall, a pleasing result! The Minotaurs are coming along nicely now. I am working on a vehicle this week, so hopefully I can post that soon.

Menacing Black Legion

Adding to my ever-growing Black Legion army is this little squad of Chosen. They are a mixture of models that include conversions from a Blackstone Fortress model, a Dark Vengeance model and some of the new Chaos Space Marine tactical squad. My favourite is the one on the left, with her pale skin and punk haircut. The one that is second from the right has a small head, and I think that gives him a "truescale" look. Or maybe he just looks like a small-headed person... I'll leave that for you to decide!

I'm working hard on painting at the moment, so hopefully I can keep posting models over the next few weeks. I have a couple of big models in that queue, but I'm very slow with big models, so it'll be a real push to keep the momentum going when I get to those. We'll see.

A fistful of fists

Today I have another in my series of "single squad of space marines from a new chapter." So far, I have made squads, usually out of vintage models, from quite a few chapters, and this latest is the Imperial Fists. I already had Captain Lysander, so he really needed a retinue, and that gave me the opportunity to paint more yellow marines. I particularly like the sergeant with his freehand banner. The Imperial Fists icon isn't too difficult to paint, so if you're considering what chapter to paint, that might be a factor for you.

Here they are with Lysander.

I thought this might be a good point to recap some of the squads I have done, so here they are:

 Ultramarines

 Black Templars

Iron Snakes

Salamanders

I have plenty more space marines, but these are the ones where I just have a single squad and a captain to accompany them.

Leviathan Dreadnought

Today's mini is a humble Leviathan Dreadnought. This is one of the Forge World ones, which I bought just before the plastic one came out...
